Dave won tickets to see Franz Ferdinand at the Roundhouse, playing as part of the itunes festival. And I was lucky enough to be his plus one. An excuse for a few beers and a catch up with the nice back drop of the Roundhouse.
Support came from Passion Pit, an electronic, slightly high pitched outfit, and whilst I'm sure they're taken seriously, for me it was all a bit Junior Senior. With Michael Jackson's death a few days ago, I wondered if they were playing in homage. Any minute I expect them to go into ABC. Now Dave reckons they sound like Whitney Houston, now it you haven't heard anything by them that'll confuse you.
My eyesight, now that I'm getting old it isn't what it was apparently, which makes a game of "nothing lookey likey" at a distance a little more interesting. Dave reckoned the lead singer looked like Bret from Flight of the Conchords. I could see 2 Brets. Oh dear.
Franz Ferdinand, played a good mixture of new and old songs, though I wished I'd at least listened to the latest album beforehand. Compared to previous FF gigs the audience was a little more subdued, only really coming a live on the singles. As is the curse with freebie gigs, there's lots of people like me who know them, haven't got around to getting the latest album, so stand twiddling our thumbs on the songs we don't recognise.
We came for a good night out, with no filler, just the good tunes. FF didn't have to do much to deliver. And after a few beers I'd say they certainly did.
Thanks Dave.
